The flu jab is free on the NHS for over 65s, pregnant women, those with existing long-term health conditions and carers.  It is also offered as a nasal spray for two, three and four-year-olds as well as children in school years Reception, One, Two, Three and Four.

National consultation on items of low priority currently prescribed in primary care

In July this year, NHS Clinical Commissioners (NHSCC) and NHS England launched a national consultation on items which should not be routinely prescribed in primary care.

The aim of the consultation is to support Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in ensuring that they can use their prescribing resources effectively and deliver best patient outcomes from the medicines that their local population uses.

The consultation will close on Saturday 21 October.
